Saugus Police were sent to the Dick's Sporting Goods at 1201 Broadway around 6:45 p.m. Sunday after someone called 911 from the store.

John said the taxi driver wouldn't move, so the man accused of shoplifting reportedly got out of the auto, ran in front of it and smashed the window of the taxi.

Police are searching for a man suspected of carjacking a taxi driver outside a MA mall.

Ron Giorgetti said the suspect ran out of the store five minutes later, carrying three jackets he didn't buy and being chased by another man.

"He fled into the parking lot and attempted to enter the cab", Lt. Georgetti told WBZ NewsRadio 1030's Doug Cope. Police say the man removed the taxi driver, who was not injured in the process, and drove off in the stolen vehicle toward Essex Street.

Both John and the taxi driver were not seriously hurt.

The man was described as white and in his 30s with salt-and-pepper hair and a goatee.

Officials are looking for a 2008 gray Ford Fusion from Garcia's Taxi Company, cab no. 24, with a license plate number 412C.

Anyone who was in the area at the time of the incident, or who encounters the taxi, is asked to immediately call their local police department or Saugus Police at 781-941-1199.
