A unique McLaren 720S supercar designed by McLaren Operations (MSO) is the centrepiece of the McLaren display at the 2017 Dubai International Motor Show, which takes place November 14 - 18.

Black and gold paint schemes are normally associated with Lotus Formula One cars of the 1970s, but MSO has given the black and gold treatment to this custom 720S that has been commissioned for a client in Dubai.

Built by McLaren Special Operations (MSO), the 720S combines a satin black paintwork with gold-colored wheels and interior trim.

The theme of "achievement" was a key sentiment behind the commission, as Andreas Bareis, Managing Director Middle East, Africa & Latin America for McLaren Automotive, explained: "The quote from Bruce McLaren rings true not only of the history of McLaren, but also the achievements of the UAE and the Gulf states over the last four decades".

The vehicle started life as a McLaren 720S Performance and received an array of MSO Bespoke carbon fiber parts such as the front splitter, air intakes, rear bumper, roof panel, rear diffuser, side mirror arms, rear aero bridge, plus deck and engine covers.

As a nod to the legendary McLaren F1 of the 1990s, the engine heatshield has been lined in 24-carat gold, with the black leather interior lined with gold inserts to give it that extra Dubai touch.

Customising the auto from a standard 720S took more than 120 hours, with 30 of those spent on the rear spoiler alone.

The rest of the cabin receives black Alcantara and leather trim, along with a regular carbon-fibre interior upgrade pack. There's also a gold-colour applique on the door inners. "This vehicle pays tribute to that".

The new owner will take delivery of his Black and Gold 720S as soon as the Dubai Motor Show finishes. This means power of 710bhp from McLaren's turbocharged 4.0-litre V8, a top speed of 212mph and a 0-62mph time of 2.8sec.
