Westminster Magistrates' Court heard the pair had argued in the back of a taxi before he threw a "left hook".

Businessman Goldsmith, estimated to be worth £30million, is the younger brother of the Duchess's mother Carole Middleton and attended the weddings of both Kate and Pippa.

Julie-Anne was knocked down to the pavement outside the couple's home after Goldsmith assaulted her, according to taxi driver Daniel Shepherd, who reported the incident to the police after driving the two home.

"He then describes how Mr Goldsmith punches her hard in the face using a left hook."Mrs Goldsmith has then fallen backwards".

Shepherd said he rushed to the woman's aid and called the police on her request.

Prince William's wife also appeared to have a brand new hair do, which was much lighter and shorter than it was following her appearance on Remembrance Sunday.

Mrs Goldsmith remained on the floor with eyes closed for about 15 seconds before she woke and staggered to her feet and crying, the court heard. Describing his pride at seeing his niece marry Prince William, Goldsmith has said: "She is this confident, clever, caring girl who has taken her responsibilities in marriage and job incredible seriously".

Ms Shilton said Goldsmith appeared to be "panicked" and when the taxi driver challenged him over his actions, he became aggressive.

Julie-Ann is his fourth wife. They had spent the evening at the Home House private members' club in Portman Square, Marylebone. Kate heard specifically how Family Action - one of the charities providing support at the centre - offers perinatal mental health services.

After pleading guilty to one count of assault by beating, Gary, 52, has been released on bail until November 21, when he will be sentenced, reported the Evening Standard.

Chief Magistrate Emma Arbuthnot said: "I am excluding custody and looking at a community order".

After he and Luan divorced, he married Julia Leake following a whirlwind romance. Shepherd said the couple had got in a row before Julie-Anne slapped her husband across the face.

His father was a painter and decorator from west London and his grandfather worked as a miner in Durham. She met husband Michael at the airline and they later had Kate and Pippa.
