Croatia became one of the 32 teams that will compete for FIFA World Cup glory in Russian Federation next summer, after forcing a scoreless draw at the Georgios Karaiskakis Stadium in Piraeus, Greece on Sunday night and defending a huge 4-1 advantage gained in the first playoff match in Zagreb.

"We are a very good team and it would not be just for us not to go to Russian Federation".

Croatia and Switzerland book their places in the 2018 World Cup on November 12 by edging their opponents in the playoffs of the qualification stage in Europe.

No team has overturned a 4-1 first leg deficit at this stage, while the Croatians have now not lost a major tournament playoff match on any of their five occasions.

"We had a good match in Zagreb but it was hard here". With three goals advantage in his hands he set a strong defense. "It was very easy to reach the agreement with him which proves that we have a common goal and that is the success of the Croatian national team", Suker said in the official media release. "I thank President Suker and the Executive Committee for their trust and I can promise everyone that I will continue to give my maximum to make the national team play as high as the quality of the players we have in our ranks", Dalić added.

"It was a tough match for us. The players did their job and they've earned their very well deserved place at the World Cup", Dalic said after the match in Piraeus. "It would be insane not to put Dalic at this position". "We've been talking with Dalic and he will lead Croatia at the World Cup". I have already said that we can easily agree [a contract] later, and today we have done so.

The financial terms shouldn't be a problem as CFF has earned eight million U.S. dollars by reaching the World Cup. However, despite having more possession, chances were few and far between and they failed to test Croatian goalkeeper Danijel Subasic until the 87th minute with Panagiotis Tachtsidis having his shot saved. This time the teams meet in Athens and Greek side will hope that they can make a comeback.
