After picking up the puck in the Oilers' slot, McDavid did what he does best and blazed up the ice before feeding it over to Leon Draisaitl who delivered a nasty spin-o-rama pass right back to the Oilers Captain who promptly buried.

McDavid scored 38 seconds into overtime as the Oilers began a pivotal four-game east coast road trip with a 2-1 win over the New York Islanders at Barclays Center.

The Oilers traded Eberle to the Islanders in exchange for Ryan Strome on June 22. It was the first time he went head-to-head with the Oilers.

"It was really weird, to be honest", said Eberle, who spent the first seven years of his career as an Oiler.

Getzlaf has a goal and six assists in six games this season. "We'll see how he is in the morning", coach Todd McLellan said.

"I told him he's got some work to do to catch the 104, but I don't think it's going to be a problem for him", Weight said with a laugh before the game. Strome received a brief video tribute in the first period.

"We just didn't capitalize on our chances", Eberle said.

NY has lost two of three; the Islanders are 5-0-2 at Barclays Center this season. "We really closed up defensively against a good, strong team". It was a unsafe position for us. "That's what we look to them for in situations like that, and we got it tonight". It's not an enigma what they did a year ago, so I knew it was going to be a tough game.

NOTES: The Islanders scratched D Adam Pelech (upper body), who missed his third straight game, as well as C Alan Quine and D Dennis Seidenberg. "At that age, his maturity, the way he carries himself and the way he plays every game, it's special".

But as much as the Isles pressed, even down a man with Nikolay Kulemin (upper body) lost in the second and likely out for a stretch, there was no satisfaction. The game featured the last four rookies to collect five assists in a game - Oilers C Connor McDavid, Oilers C Ryan Nugent-Hopkins, Islanders C John Tavares and Islanders C Mathew Barzal, the latter of whom became the latest to achieve the feat on Sunday night.
