Report of active shooter in Lake County prompts shelter-in-place order

Officials told KPIX-TV that two people had died in the shooting near the Clearlake Oaks Post Office.

The Lake County Sheriff Department is advising all residents near the Clearlake Oaks Post Office to shelter in place due to a deadly shooting in the area.

California Highway Patrol spokesman Calvin Robertson said the incident injured a CHP officer.

Alan Ashmore, 61, of Clearlake Oaks, was arrested about 30 minutes after the first report of gunfire.

The suspect was shot by and officer, but managed to get in a vehicle and take off.

More gunfire erupted at two gas stations, including one where the shooter allegedly exchanged fire with someone licensed to carry a concealed weapon.

Regional newspaper the Lake County Record Bee said there were reports of multiple shots heard in the area. Law enforcement officers were speaking to that person, Martin said.
