Gardai Arrest Man In Citywest

The man who was arrested in relation to a Dublin crime spree in which six cars were hijacked, has previously been jailed for his role in a car-jacking and is now serving a driving ban.

He was arrested by armed detectives outside the City West shopping centre shortly after 2pm, while a firearm was recovered nearby.

A man has been arrested following a number of violent incidents in Tallaght, Co Dublin. "Thank you for your assistance".

It's understood the suspect then made his way into the Watergate housing estate in Tallaght where he broke into a house.

The suspect reportedly tried to hijack a vehicle and force his way into a house following a supposed "violent incident".

Gardai appealed for the public's help but urged anyone not to approach the man, but report sightings.

Since this morning, Gardaí have been searching for an armed man who is believed to have been involved in a number of incidents in Tallaght this morning.

The gunman is understood to have been carrying a machine gun when he stole a black Renault Kadjar SUV with the registration 162-D-8767.

He was wearing grey shorts, a green and black Northface jacket and grey and navy runners at the time.

A number of cars, possibly as many as three, were hijacked.
