Actress Disha Patani to star in fantasy-epic 'Sangamithra'

Chennai: Actress Disha Patani has replaced Shruti Haasan as the lead in the upcoming Tamil historic drama Sangamitra.

Sundar's wife Khushbu Sundar made the news official announcing that Disha Patani will reprise the role of Sangamitra in the movie.

Patani was quick to respond. Apparently, Disha, who made her acting debut with Puri Jagannadh's Telugu film Loafer, was signed a month ago but the makers waited for the right moment to make the announcement.

Earlier, Shruti Haasan walked out of the project stating that she did not receive "a full bound script and a proper date calendar". "But I wish the team all the very best", she had told when asked why she had opted out of the film.

After Shruti's exit, some of the big names in the South Indian industry including Nayanthara and Hansika Motwani were reportedly considered for the role of Sangamithra. The film will start rolling from October and will be wrapped up soon, following which Sundar will focus on his two-part epic series. Starring Jai, Jiiva, Catherine Tresa and Nikki Galrani as leads, "Kalakalappu 2" has music composed by Hiphop Tamizha. The movie will document the journey of Sangamithra, who is out to save her kingdom.When the makers had tweeted the storyline, they had also mentioned that this is not based on any real-life story. Also, the makers have released the posters of the film that featured Shruti painted Sangamitra.
