Hayward was scheduled for a surgery the following night, and agent Mark Bartelstein reportedly told Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN that the player was unlikely to play for the rest of the season after the medical procedure.

Calling the surgery a success, Bartelstein added, "We expect him to make a full recovery and return to his All-Star form".

We saw it Wednesday night in Boston's home opener against the Milwaukee Bucks, the second night of a back-to-back following Tuesday's emotional loss in Cleveland, when Stevens went to Abdel Nader as his first man off of the bench.

On Tuesday, Hayward suffered a gruesome injury just five minutes and 15 seconds into Boston's season opener against the Cavaliers. Kyrie Irving scored 17 points on 7-for-25 shooting.

The Celtics are now 0-2 from their opening two games after suffering defeats to the Cleveland Cavaliers and the Milwaukee Bucks.

Losing Hayward is a big blow to Boston, but if there's one positive that can come out of it, Brown will be more determined to fill the void and it will accelerate his development as a player. Players on both teams reacted in horror on at the site of Hayward's leg bent unnaturally, but coach Brad Stevens said he did not see the injury live and has avoided watching replays. We got a really good group and a lot of young guys - we're going to move forward and take that challenge. "I think we all embrace that, I embrace that". I wish you the best of luck.

"I think so", he said. They still have Kyrie, they still have Al Horford, and they still have the three guys previously mentioned, who are age 23 and under and have a great chance to showcase their skills. They lost against his former team, the Cleveland Cavaliers, 102-99. Smart moved into the starting lineup on Wednesday night against the Bucks. "And I thought he had his most comfortable week as far as feeling like he was going to play really well".

It's clear that the young swingman put the work in during the offseason to improve and has displayed a real confidence during his first two games of the year.
