McGowan has not commented about canceling her film festival appearance.

Some of the most serious allegations of sexual misconduct against Harvey Weinstein include rape - most prominently, actress Rose McGowan has accused the embattled film executive of raping her while at the Sundance Film Festival in Utah in 1997.

Sadly, 24 hours before her scheduled public appearance, organizers announced that Rose would no longer be coming.

"While we're disappointed that Rose can not be here with us in person, we understand that her well being is the priority", says Tallgrass Creative Director Lela Meadow-Conner. "We also felt that, in the process of the deserved attention her activism receives, arguably her presence as an independent film icon and genuine filmmaking talent can get lost in the mix".

Rose McGowan canceled all future public appearances, including one at a Kansas film festival, on Wednesday due to "compounding factors" following the Harvey Weinstein sexual assault scandal.

"We'll seize this opportunity to amplify her message and celebrate all the women filmmakers with works here at the 15th annual festival", Meadow-Conner said.

To honour Rose, the organisers have made a decision to hold a panel discussion with women filmmakers instead to help "amplify her message" and have a frank conversation about sexual harassment in the entertainment industry ahead of a screening of Planet Terror.

Beyond Weinstein's firing from his company and reported criminal investigations into allegations against him in both the US and United Kingdom, the spotlight shone on the producer has also exposed others in Hollywood. Last Thursday, McGowan revealed on Twitter that she'd repeatedly told ousted Amazon Studios boss Roy Price "HW raped me", only for Price to allegedly tell her that it "hadn't been proven". Weinstein, through a representative, has denied any allegation of non-consensual sex.

Neither Price or Bezos have responded to McGowan's tweets.
