Police have renewed their appeal for two men to come forward who they feel may have key information relating to the arrest of England Test vice-captain Ben Stokes.

Stokes was suspended by the England and Wales Cricket Board after being arrested on suspicion of causing actual bodily harm in Bristol.

The England all-rounder, who fractured his hand in the Bristol incident, was released without charge by Avon and Somerset police pending further investigation.

Officers were called to the Clifton Triangle area of the city in the early hours of September 25 to reports of disorder.

Even though Stokes was named in the Ashes squad and also retained his vice-captain post, there is a cloud on his participation with the investigation in process and also the 26-year-old nursing an injury.

His team-mate Alex Hales has been interviewed by police, along with two other men.

"One of the men is described as white, of slim build, 5ft 9in tall and aged in his early 20s. He had short light brown hair, was also clean shaven and wore a long-sleeved round neck T-shirt, dark/black skinny jeans and trainers".

Stokes will not travel with England to Australia on October 28, though the European Central Bank have not made a decision on his participation in the five-Test series, which starts on November 23.

Last week it was announced Stokes had lost his sponsorship with sportswear brand New Balance, which was worth a reported £200,000 a year.

Stokes' England team-mate, Alex Hales, who was present at the time of the incident, has also been made unavailable for selection by the European Central Bank, although his lawyer last week said he would be "surprised" if he faced further action.

Last week Stokes apologised for imitating television personality Katie Price and her disabled son Harvey in video footage which emerged after the incident in Bristol but was unrelated.

Stokes's agent Neil Fairbrother, meanwhile, has said the Durham all-rounder has his "total backing" after hearing his explanation of events.
