JK: Search operation launched after gunshots heard in Pulwama

A Jaish-e-Muhammad (JeM) militant, who hurled a grenade at PDP leader and minister Naeem Akhtar's cavalcade last month, was arrested from the Pulwama district on Friday, police said. During the search operation, one terrorist Gulzar Ahmad Dar, resident of Nagbal Tral was apprehended.

He said acting on specific information, Awantipora police along with 42 RR and 180 Bn CRPF launched a cordon and search operation at village Naristan, Tral in Pulwama.

"A Chinese pistol, a magazine and some rounds were recovered from the possession of the arrested militant", a police officer said.

While Akhtar had escaped unhurt in the attack on his motorcade at Tral bus stand, three civilians had been killed and 30 people, including seven CRPF and two police personnel, injured.

A case FIR number 121/2014 under section 307/RPC, 2/5 Exp. They reacted to a cordon and search operation (CASO) that has now been lifted.

He said Dar told police that his four associates are hiding in a hideout in Pastuna forest of Tral.

The search operation is going on, he added.
