Rising TCU Horned Frogs To Face The Struggling K-State Wildcats

The two-time defending Big 12 champion Sooners started 4-0 under Lincoln Riley, extending their winning streak to 14, before a 38-31 home loss to four-touchdown underdog Iowa State last weekend. Although they did not cover the 12.5 point spread, they did find enough offense to hold off a feisty West Virginia club.

Patterson is in his 17th season as TCU's head coach, and still calls defenses like he did in the three years before that as the Frogs' defensive coordinator under Dennis Franchione.

The Kansas State Wildcats weren't so lucky.

He is the first TCU player so honored in the Horned Frogs' six years in the league. The Wildcats are allowing 129 rushing yards per game, which ranks fourth in the Big 12. The Horned Frogs, who had won the previous two meetings, managed only a pair of first-half field goals and finished with less than 300 yards (280).

"It's nice just for the fact that we are at the top of the conference", TCU quarterback Kenny Hill said. He connected on 15 of 28 passes for 188 yards with one touchdown and no picks. Most defensive systems put seven players in "the box".

Brodziansky led TCU in scoring at 14.1 points per game, and his 82 blocked shots were the second highest single-season total in school history. Instead, the offense was led by running backs Justin Stockton and Desmond Nisby. Four times the Horned Frogs (5-0) pinned West Virginia inside its own 6-yard line with punts. Teammates Kyle Hicks and Sewo Olonilua have pitched in with nearly 350 more yards and five scores. Kansas, which plays at Iowa State, has lost 45 consecutive games away from Lawrence, including 42 straight true road contests.

Kenny Hill uses five different wideouts to do his dirty work on Saturdays. And on a fourth-and-inches play, TCU opted to be aggressive and it paid off, with Jalen Reagor running for seven yards, and almost breaking it for a touchdown. As a unit, they have reeled in 66 passes for just under 800 yards and seven scores. It was the Sooners' defense that let them down as Iowa State racked up a whopping 449 yards on offense. They did allow 508 total yards but once again were opportunistic and forced two turnovers.

If you could have one image to define the college football season thus far, it would probably come from the Big 12, specifically Oklahoma's Baker Mayfield, capping off the most earth-shattering win of the season over Ohio State by planting the OU flag in the Block O on Ohio Stadium's field.

The Kansas State Wildcats (3-2) are coming from a 40-34 loss to the Texas Longhorns. His success has not escaped the notice of Kansas State coach Bill Snyder.

On the other hand, while the Kansas State is among the promising teams at the start of the year, they are not slowly going down the hype. Ertz was banged up against Texas, which could spell trouble for the Wildcats. He is consistently asked to carry the Wildcat's offense and most of the time does a great job at it.

Who will emerge as the most likely CFB Playoff contender among the only three with a realistic shot, TCU, Oklahoma, and Oklahoma State?

None of that clamor, however, is what the Big 12 needs while attempting to crack the playoff. But he's not almost the passer that Ertz is, looking shaky in his five pass attempts, completing two of them for 30 yards. On the other side, wideout Isiah Zuber leads the Wildcats with 20 receptions. "They talk about him being improved, and I certainly can see that". They gave up 546 yards in a double over so that stat may be a little skewed. They're averaging 220 yards per game on the ground and 259 yards through the air.
