SEVERAL people have been shot after a gunman opened fire in multiple locations in a Swedish town.

Local media reported that at least four people had been taken to hospital, while some unconfirmed reports suggested up to seven people might have been seriously injured.

'When we arrived at the scene, several people with gunshot injuries were found.

Security officials have blocked some areas and are conducting "an investigation".

A huge police operation has been launched and the area around where the drama unfolded has been cordoned off.

"It's packed with police cars in the street". A forensics team and canine unit have been sent to the scene.
