Mike Laidlaw has been paramount to works such as the Mass Effect trilogy, the Dragon Age franchise, and the infamous Jade Empire title.

Laidlaw made the public announcement on his personal Twitter account, saying "it's time for me to move on". In his 14 years at the studio, he worked on multiple RPG franchises, including Mass Effect and Jade Empire.

BioWare is famed for titles like Knights of the Old Republic, Mass Effect, and of course, the dark RPG series Dragon Age, which put player choice and outcome front and center.

In my time at BioWare I have been lucky to work with some of the most talented and hardworking people in the industry.

Bioware's former now director Mike Laidlaw didn't give explanations as to why he left the company, he said though that he will continue his connection with the industry through Twitch as a streamer.

He doesn't get specific about any future plans, other than a desire to play some "amazing games" that his peers have created over the past few years. You've made my time "in Thedas" incredible. He took on the role of lead designer on Dragon Age before becoming the creative director then senior creative director for the entire franchise. BioWare's main teams are now working on Anthem, which is rumored to be a direct Destiny competitor, with an online open world and RPG elements. Just like that folks, the golden age of modern BioWare loses a creative force.

We've reached out to BioWare to confirm Laidlaw's departure.
