Tamil superstar Thalapathy Vijay's upcoming film Mersal is one week away for its grand theatrical release.

Tipped to be made on a whopping budget of Rs 130 crore, Mersal is the most expensive film in Vijay's career, superseding his action-adventure flick Puli, made on a budget of Rs 100 crore.

The veracity of this rumor however will come to light only after the release of the film in October 18. For quite some time now, Kollywood (as the Tamil film industry is called) steered by the Tamil Film Producers' Council, has been protesting against the state government over the double taxation in Tamil Nadu. Hema Rukmani, director Thenandal Studios Limited, the makers of Mersal, on Tuesday took to twitter to announce that the film has been confirmed to release in 3292 screens worldwide, making it the biggest release for a Tamil movie.

The film is releasing in record number of places in several places.

In Kerela, Vijay starrer will open in 350 screens, breaking the record of Prabhas starrer Baahubali 2, which was released in 320 screens. Malaysia, which is a huge market for Tamil cinema, is reportedly going to have a massive 800 screens release. He will be romancing three heroines in the movie - Nithya Menen, Samantha Ruth Prabhu and Kajal Aggarwal.

Mersal reunites Vijay with Atlee Kumar after their superhit Theri. The posters and trailers of the film received positive response from the audience.

Made on a budget of over Rs 120 crore, Mersal is directed by Atlee and written by KV Vijayendra Prasad.

Social media reports say that for commercial reasons, the makers of Mersal have changed the lyrics of Aalaporan Tamizhan to glorify Telugu language in Adhirindhi (Telugu dubbed version of Mersal).
