Veteran actor Anupam Kher was on Wednesday appointed the new chairperson of the premier Film and Television Institute of India (FTII) replacing Gajendra Chauhan.

Summary: The students also felt that since Kher had his own private acting school, his appointment as the FTII chairman may lead to "conflict of interest". He believes that sharing experience adds up to his perspectives and that is what he wants to do. Following the announcement of the actor's appointment, the association held a general body meeting at the campus on Wednesday night and based on the issues discussed drafted an open letter. Anupam says that he would love to facilitate students rather than setting agenda like an administrator. "I will perform my duties to the best of my abilities".

Chauhan completed his tenure in March. As the matter started gaining mileage, many Bollywood celebs said that Chauhan's appointment was wrong.

Asked about it, Anupam said: "See, it is not dignified to comment on someone's words that he said in a certain context". He thinks it is a great honor for him and that comes with a great responsibility as well.

The letter puts forward many concerns the students and staff have regarding the institution, and asks for Kher's "take" on these issues. "So, I am content". The 1984 Mahesh Bhatt film Saaransh was his breakout role.

Kher has also been part of critically acclaimed worldwide films like Bend It Like Beckham, Golden Lion-winning Lust, and Oscar-winning Silver Linings Playbook.

He has also appeared in several stage plays and authored a book, "The Best Thing About You Is You". A person who has done cinema, television, and who also owns an acting institute.

The 62-year-old Kher was conferred the Padma Shri in 2004 and the Padma Bhushan in 2016 by the government of India. He is all for the formal training in the craft. He has been the running the acting school for 14 long years and he thinks that he has survived in the entertainment industry for 40 years only because he is the student of the National School of Drama. "Congratulations my dear @AnupamPkher for becoming FTII Chairman!" I don't want to go there with any kind of baggage.
