Piaggio has introduced a new special edition Vespa Red in India at Rs 87,009 (ex-showroom, Mumbai), which is available in all Vespa retails outlets across the country.

The scooter is finished in the same red colour as the organisation founded by U2 singer Bono co-created, called Red, to fight AIDS. Bollywood actor Farhan Akhtar is the first customer of Vespa RED in India.

This is not the first time that RED has come up to fight AIDS and other diseases like Tuberculosis and Malaria, since 2006, it has been raising money and awareness and has generated more than $475 million dollars to support Global Fund. Vespa India has announced that the company will contribute 50$ to the Global Fund on every Vespa RED sold.

As the name suggests, the Vespa RED gets all-red treatment; it features red paint scheme, seat, plastic panels and alloy wheels. Mechanically and visually the only newness that the Vespa RED gets is the styling and colour option, while the basic design of the scooter remains identical to - the Vespa 125.

From the engine point of view, there is no change in the mill and the Vespa RED comes powered by the same 125cc engine that can churn out 10.45 bhp at 7,500 rpm and a peak torque of 10.6 Nm generated at 6,000 rpm. The organization has been distributing medicines that prevents pregnant women from passing the HIV virus to their unborn baby.

Vespa RED has been launched in the country by Piaggio India. "I am honored to be a part of this endeavor for the fight to end AIDS here in India". In the global market, Piaggio already has the Vespa 946 RED. "The (VESPA) RED is handsome not only because of its striking red color and great design, but the best feature of this scooter is that it's fighting AIDS".

The Vespa RED is a unique, exclusive scooter with the same performance as the stock Vespa 125cc offerings.
