Investors are usually trying to take advantage of every possible market scenario. Becoming educated about the stock market before tackling the beast might assist the individual investor in many ways. Short-term developments may cause the investor to lose confidence in certain holdings. Creating portfolios that have the largest probability of attaining personal goals might be the course of action for many investors. Sometimes the calm, cool, and collected approach will help settle the mind during turbulent market conditions. Although using someone else's strategy could work, chances are that eventually each investor will need to tweak the process in order to maximize their chances for success. There are many different technical indicators that traders can choose to study.

We can also take a look at the Average Directional Index or ADX of SPDR Nuveen Bloomberg Barclays Municipal Bond ETF (TFI). Moving averages can be very helpful for identifying peaks and troughs. The firm's 50 day moving average is $246.63 and its 200-day moving average is $241.70. Ichimoku Kinko Hyo, which translates to "equilibrium at a glance chart", was developed to allow a trader to quickly and easily appraise the trend, momentum, and support and resistance levels of an asset, from a single chart. The indicator is non-directional meaning that it gauges trend strength whether the stock price is trending higher or lower. A popular tool among technical stock analysts is the moving average. On the other side, a stock may be considered to be in a downtrend if trading below the moving average and sloping downward.

Traders may be narrowing in on the ATR or Average True Range indicator when reviewing technicals.

SPDR Nuveen Bloomberg Barclays Municipal Bond ETF (TFI) now has a 14 day Williams %R of -64.29.

Investors may use multiple technical indicators to help spot trends and buy/sell signals. A CCI reading closer to +100 may indicate more buying (possibly overbought) and a reading closer to -100 may indicate more selling (possibly oversold). Alternately, if the indicator goes under -80, this may signal that the stock is oversold.

The 14-day ADX for SPDR Bloomberg Barclays High Yield Bond ETF (JNK) is standing at 10.62. In general, an ADX value from 0-25 would indicate an absent or weak trend. A value between 0 to -20 would represent a strong overbought condition.

Another popular indicator among technical analysts that can help to measure the strength of market momentum is the Average Directional Index or ADX.

The RSI, or Relative Strength Index, is a widely used technical momentum indicator that compares price movement over time. Wilder introduced RSI in his book "New Concepts in Technical Trading Systems" which was published in 1978. The RSI may be useful for spotting abnormal price activity and volatility. The RSI was developed by J. Welles Wilder, and it oscillates between 0 and 100. The indicator is computed by using the average losses and gains of a stock over a certain time period. Typically, if the value heads above -20, the stock may be considered to be overbought. An RSI reading over 70 would be considered overbought, and a reading under 30 would indicate oversold conditions.
