Dharmendra Pradhan to launch PMUY LPG Panchayat in Gujarat

Union Minister of Petroleum and Natural Gas, Dharmendra Pradhan, on Sunday talked about the. Addressing a joint press conference here, State Level Coordinator of the Oil Industry and Executive Director Sanjeev Jain said that a total of 100 rural LPG users of neighbouring areas mostly the beneficiaries of PMUY which was launched on May 1, 2016 would participate in the panchayats. The government wants to increase the number by pushing the scheme aggressively in rural areas, where many people still prefer use of traditional cooking fuel. "Landed at Ahmedabad. Will be launching today the Pradhan Mantri LPG Panchayat: The Beginning of a Positive Change", Pradhan posted on Twitter earlier this morning.

The Centre plans to organise one lakh LPG Panchayats across the country, where discussions will take place between officials of fuel companies and villagers on awareness and uses of the LPG. Within 16 months of the launch of PMUY by PM Narendra Modi, the oil industry has facilitated LPG connections to some three crore beneficiaries. "Only 14 crore houses were given LPG connections until 2014, and in Gujarat only 61 lakh houses had LPG...." A significant chunk of the targeted Rs 8,000 crore fund for PMUY comes from cooking gas users who gave up their LPG subsidies.
