He (Karti) said (during interrogation) that he has only one account overseas.

Additional Solicitor General Tushar Mehta, for CBI, said the intent and language of the LOC was not to detain or arrest Mr. Karti, as it was only a measure to ensure that he did not leave the country when the investigation into a case involving "serious offences" was going on.

"By quoting CBI as the source, the lie does not become the truth", he said reacting to CBI's claim in the court during a hearing on the look out notice against Karti which he has challenged.

Senior Congress leader P Chidambaram dared the Central Bureau of Investigation to back up its "absolute lie" about his son Karti Chidambaram's undisclosed foreign bank accounts and asked the central agency to reveal the secret assets owned by the family. He also pointed that the CBI had not asked him about his foreign bank accounts though he had been questioned twice.

Making this revelation, additional solicitor- general Tushar Mehta, appearing for the CBI, told a Bench of the Chief justice Dipak Misra and Justices A.M. Kanwilkar and D.Y. Chandrachud that the look out notice (LoN) was issued only to prevent him from going overseas and he defended such a move meant to make him participate in the investigation.

To this, the ASG retorted, "Let me say what is contained in the sealed cover". The court was hearing a plea in connection with the INX Media case.

"Why did you not ask a single question about those accounts when he appeared before you?" While INX Media had approval for foreign investment worth R4.62 crore, it had managed to raise around R305 crore in 2007 through "influence in the finance ministry".

"Without any fault on my part, you can't issue a LOC". The LOCs were also issued against the three directors of Advantage Strategic Consulting, the company which had received the kickbacks on behalf of Karti.

Earlier, the court had stayed the Madras High Court order that suspended a lookout circular issued against Karti and others.

His father has long insisted that Karti is being targeted by the NDA government only because he is his son but "the real target is me".
