Nikki Reed: Ian Somerhalder 'Threw Out All My Birth Control Pills'

"The birth that I always wanted was a home birth with no lights, no one talking, no intervention of any kind", Nikki said on the podcast.

Reed responded to the backlash Somerhalder received this week on social media where people are labelling his act as reproductive coercion - a term the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists says "involves behavior meant to maintain power and control in a relationship related to reproductive health" and when someone tries to "coerce a partner to have unprotected sex and interfere (s) with contraceptive methods". "I just didn't know". "That was also presumptuous", referring to Somerhalder's second-date assumption that the two were going to get married. Nikki announced her pregnancy in May 2017 and gave birth to a baby girl, Bodhi Soleil Reed Somerhalder, on July 25.

In an interview with Dr. Berlin's Informed Pregnancy Podcast, Reed revealed - while laughing - that her husband went into her purse without her consent and "threw out all [her] birth control pills" during a 2016 trip to Spain, as if it were something romantic and adorable.

'By the way, it was the beginning of the pack, so I had to pop all those suckers out, ' he explained. "It's a lot of work, especially after a little sangria". He says he even has a six-minute video of Nikki freaking out as he flushed the pills down the toilet!

Of giving birth, Nikki said the experience was "intense, intense, intense". The couple also explained why they made a decision to share their birth story, considering how private they've always been about their relationship. "And we want to do it again".
