Barely a dozen shoppers queue for launch of Apple's iPhone 8

Inside the sacrificial smartphone they looked at its A11 Bionic processor, front and rear-facing cameras, battery, and more.

"I often take videos when going on vacation so I can't wait to try out the improved camera", said Rei Yokoyama, a 21-year-old college student who bought the larger iPhone 8 Plus. Apple's iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus are out today and cosmetically, not much has changed aside from the new glass back. However, Apple said the new phone should be able to deliver the same battery life as its predecessor.

Eddie Hold, president of NPD Connected Intelligence, said approximately 20 percent of the USA population plans to purchase a new iPhone, roughly half of the company's iPhone customer base and about standard for the circumstances.

"Older models are also showing significant interest", Hold said, "with pre-7 models commanding 21 percent of the population's intent". The addition of wireless charging is also a good thing as it'll mean less wear and tear on the Lightning port, a common point of failure.

iFixit explained that there is a Qi-enabled wireless charging coil which uses an oscillating magnetic field to generate an alternating current, which is then converted into direct current to charge up the battery. This can cause issues when it comes to repairing the iPhone. "Over half of those intending to buy an iPhone fairly soon are looking at older models, rather than the newly announced devices". It's a tough decision; but a new iFixit teardown of the iPhone 8 (its bigger sibling, the iPhone 8 Plus, will come later) might help you make up your mind.
