Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif has said that US President Donald Trump's United Nations address is not worth of a reply.

"Time is now ripe for correcting the USA miscalculations", General Mohammad Ali Jafari said Wednesday, a day after Trump addressed the United Nations and called Iran a "corrupt dictatorship" and a "murderous regime".

The US has gained nothing but failure in all of its military operations in the Middle East, Major General Yahya Rahim Safavi, a top military aide to Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei said in a gathering of Friday prayer worshippers in Tehran.

Zarif said Trump's speech demonstrated the ignorance and populist behaviour of the US President regarding foreign policy, the country's official news agency IRNA reported, reports IANS. "The American elites and intellectuals should feel ashamed for having Trump as their president, and they have indeed voiced their embarrassment".

"That foolish, extremely ugly and disgusting speech by the US President, with its gangster and cowboy language fraught with sheer lies, stems from their fury, frustration and light-headedness", he said.

Tillerson said the "sunset" clauses, under which some of the deal's restrictions on Iran's nuclear program expire from 2025, were of particular concern. The diplomat also said that the Iranian nuclear deal, officially known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), was "non-negotiable". He added that Iran would respond to any violations of the JCPOA.

Last week, Trump hinted that the U.S. might not recertify Iranian compliance with the nuclear agreement in October, adding that Tehran "violated the spirit of that deal".

"The Iranian government masks a corrupt dictatorship behind the false guise of a democracy", Trump said.

But since rising to the presidency in the USA a year after the implementation of the Iran deal had begun, Donald Trump has been actively seeking a pretext to initiate an American withdrawal.

The nuclear deal involves the monitoring and limitation of Tehran's nuclear programme in exchange for the lifting of global sanctions.

"It is time to correct the miscalculations of the United States", he said.

In return, the United States and the European Union have lifted their nuclear sanctions against Iran.
