The tablet also comes with a new and improved version of Amazon's Fire OS, which includes deeper integration with the company's popular Alexa virtual assistant and smarter content suggestion based on watching habits.

Let's talk first about the tablet element. It's mostly a tablet, but that Echo bit is interesting.

The Fire tablet runs a modified version of Android that Amazon has bolstered with a handful of nice, company-specific features.

"For less than $150, the all-new Fire HD 10 offers a lovely 1080p Full HD display, faster performance, more storage, and up to 10 hours of battery life", said Kevin Keith, General Manager, Amazon Devices.

The 2017 Fire HD 10 continues Amazon's recent moves in tablets, cutting prices, adding features and increasing the durability of its line that is aimed squarely at media consumption rather than content creation or work. Should you forget to download your favorite show before you leave the house, On Deck has you covered with a selection of TV shows and movies already downloaded and ready to watch. (You might want to turn it off if you have another Alexa-enabled device nearby, so as to avoid duplicate actions.) When it's enabled, hands-free Alexa makes the tablet work just like any other Echo device - it can turn lights off, start movies, set timers, and so on. New new tablet is up for pre-order today. There's 10 hours of battery life, dual-speaker stereo Dolby Atmos audio, and, of course, that brand new hands-free Alexa feature.

The Fire HD 10 will come in black, blue, and red, with optional covers costing an extra $40. Now, with the new Fire HD 10, Alexa is available hands-free-when connected to Wi-Fi, simply say the wake word "Alexa" and ask Alexa to control video playback (play, pause, rewind, and fast forward), launch an app, play your favorite song, or read an audiobook aloud.

Thanks to Amazon's digital assistant, the device can also tell you what the weather is like, keep you up to speed with the latest news, and answer any questions you might have. Because it's portable, you'll have to push a button on the Tap to access Alexa.

We'll know exactly what it's good for when it's available October 11.
