The Jacksonville Sheriff's Office in Florida says they caught a pair of men trying to make off with a massive utility pole Wednesday morning.

Deputies with the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office confirmed the men were trying to steal the pole.

Perhaps the alleged thieves thought no one would believe that the massive item on top of their van was stolen.

We're not sure, but two men had plans for a pole they were apparently caught stealing in the Jacksonville, Florida, area.

I'm no expert, but I'd say going to jail over a utility pole is an even worse life choice.

"When asked why he did not just roll it further into the shoulder, he did not have an answer", the report said.

A search of a scrap dealer database revealed Apeler had 72 scrap metal related transactions since January, the station reported. The pole itself has an estimated value of $2,500.

Both men were place under arrest, but their charges are not known at this time.
