The striker only moved to the Chinese Super League at the turn of the year, but has failed to recapture his best form for them with just two goals in 14 appearances thus far.

'I won't pick him right now.

He was jeered when he came on as a substitute last weekend in a 2-1 home defeat, and Wu Jingui, who took over after Gus Poyet quit as coach on Monday, is taking a hardline stance.

New Shanghai Shenhua manager Wu Jingui axes Carlos Tevez from the first team, accusing him of being too "overweight" to play.

Along with former Inter Milan midfielder Freddy Guarin, Tevez has been dropped as he is now "overweight". He's not ready physically.

Tevez returned to the club after recovering from injury in Argentina and his boss was largely disappointed with his star player being overweight. "When you are on the pitch, if you can't play at 100%, then it is completely meaningless".

But by all accounts, Tevez is miserable in Shanghai, barely scoring and continually booed by fans.

Argentine striker Carlos Tevez could be returning for a third spell at Boca Juniors, according to reports.

Tevez was rounded on for accepting such a colossal pay check after he had revealed that he only planned on playing for Boca until he hung up his boots in the future.

Shanghai have endured a bad time in the CSL this season and now sit 12th in the table, eight points above the dropzone with seven games left to play.
