Helping to prevent suicides in the Stuttgart military community is everyone's job, said Clark and Robison. The main event during Suicide Prevention Awareness Week is the guest speaker Corey Craig.

A guest speaker gives students a chance to hear about a touchy subject from someone else's perspective.

It can be scary when you learn that a friend or loved one is thinking about suicide.

Emily Christie, Stilwell sophomore, is the coordinator for Suicide Prevention Awareness Week. Gillian Anderson works as the Development Director for JPF, whose mission is close to her heart.

"We offer proof that life can go on after such a devastating loss", she says.

Those who want to help can speak up if anxious, respond quickly in a crisis and offer help. Arango, who studied brain neurotransmitter changes in people who died by committing suicide, highlighted that biology should not be ignored in suicide studies. "Nearly three-quarters, or 72.2 percent, had more than two years of service, 40.3 percent had never deployed, and 76.7 percent were assigned to an occupation other than combat arms". They help with decisions regarding a major, other classroom issues and adjustment issues.

The National Veterans Crisis Line is also available for any veteran or military service member - whether they've used the VA in the past or not. "We need to get this topic of suicide into the open more and break some of those barriers that keep these kinds of conversations hidden". "Studies have shown that 1 out of 4 people have had a serious thought about killing oneself". However, the publication stressed that the biggest factor could be the lack of comprehensive mental health services and disjointed health care system. "We care deeply about the safety and millions of people in India who use Facebook to connect with the people who matter to them, and recognise there's an opportunity with these tools and resources to connect someone who is struggling with a person they already have a relationship with", Das said.

And despite having regrets, Farmer said no one saw it coming.

"When we were children, there were always bullies, but you could run home".

Hawkreach is available for walk-ins and by appointment all semester long. Check in starts at 8:30 a.m. and the opening presentation is 9:30 a.m. Hawkreach is located in Room 99 of the Leoser Complex.

Another way to help reduce suicides is by getting involved.
