Richard Urena singled in the winning run as the Toronto Blue Jays scored twice in the ninth inning to defeat the Baltimore Orioles 3-2 on Tuesday night.

Left fielder Teoscar Hernandez, who played at Triple-A Buffalo after being acquired in a trade with the Houston Astros, was another contributor. I think he used that quite a bit in Baltimore the last time he faced them (Sept. 1). "Maile got a big hit; you don't get many balls by Machado down there".

The winning hit came after Luke Maile singled in the tying run against Zach Britton (2-1).

Freddie Freeman hit a three-run home run off Gio Gonzalez and Julio Teheran threw seven shutout innings as the Atlanta Braves cruised to an 8-0 victory over the Washington Nationals, who were fresh off clinching the NL East. Gonzalez struggled in allowing five earned runs on seven hits in five innings as he struck out eight.

The Orioles (71-74) tied the score at 1 in the seventh on a one-out double by Trey Mancini and a two-out single by Mark Trumbo.

Mychal Givens replaced Bundy and pitched a flawless seventh.

Josh Donaldson hit a leadoff single in the sixth and Smoak walked, but Orioles right-hander Dylan Bundy retired the next three Blue Jays batters in order.

Britton walked Kevin Pillar to lead off the ninth.

Martin said, "As a professional, when you're ready to go, you're ready to go".

"If you're mentally prepared for it, you're just prepared because that's the goal - the goal is to play that extra month of baseball", said Martin.

"Putting a guy on, you've got to be really good after that", Britton said. I just needed to bear down and kind of overthrew some pitches. Before the Blue Jays handed a minor-league deal to Jarrod Saltalamacchia, they were spurned by Chris Iannetta, who figured he'd get more playing time in Arizona. "They put good wood on the mistakes I made". The Jays plated a run on a Justin Smoak RBI double in the third, but that's all they were able to muster off of Bundy.

The Orioles (71-74) fell three games below.500 for the first time since August 23, and they weren't able to take advantage of grittiest starting pitching performances of the season from right-hander Dylan Bundy, who despite holding the Blue Jays to one run over six innings, recorded his final out of the night down 1-0. He had been out since August 12. For the second time this season, Baltimore Orioles catcher Wellington Castillo couldn't manage to be on the receiving end of a foul tipped-ball in the worst possible spot. Orioles OF Craig Gentry (broken right finger) was activated from the DL after being cleared for use as a pinch runner. Kevin Gausman toes the rubber for the Baltimore Orioles for Wednesday's matchup at the Toronto Blue Jays.
