Packers Make Roster Moves

According to Adam Schefter of ESPN, the Packers released veteran defensive lineman Ricky Jean Francois. But according to Packers beat reporter Ryan Wood, the only release announced on the National Football League wire was LaDarius Gunter.

The Packers needed to reduce their roster by one to make way for Allison, who is returning in Week 2 from a one-game suspension.

Gunter was victimized continuously throughout the season and demonstrated why his 4.7 40-yard dash time was his own worst enemy in the championship game last January at Atlanta. Gunter played just 2 snaps in the season opening win over the Seahawks. That's the reason he went undrafted and why he was passed on the depth chart this year. There was no word yet and who would fill the other.

Releasing Francois appears to be the corresponding roster move.

Originally selected in the seventh-round of the 2009 NFL Draft after an impressive career at LSU, Jean-Francois spent four seasons with the 49ers before signing in free agency with the Indianapolis Colts prior to the 2013 season. Once it becomes official, the Packers will have an open roster spot.

Now on the active roster for Green Bay are Quinton Dial, Montravius Adams, Mike Daniels, Kenny Clark, and Dean Lowry. He'd spend two more seasons in Washington D.C. before signing with the Packers in the offseason.
