Olivier Giroud says he stayed at Arsenal as he has unfinished business with the club.

Olivier Giroud hopes hitting the 100-goal mark can be the latest chapter in an Arsenal love story he chose to prolong in the summer.

The 30-year-old was a target for Lyon, West Ham United and Everton after making clear at the end of last season that he was not happy with his lack of minutes.

Giroud admits that he came close to finding the exit door at Arsenal in the summer, but following consultations with his family and friends he made a decision to continue with the Gunners.

He stated: "It is a very private decision".

The ex-Montpellier frontman went to 99 after scoring the victor against Leicester City on the opening weekend and hopes to reach the landmark when he makes his first start of the campaign against FC Cologne in the Europa League on Thursday [14 September]. I still want to improve, again and again, and win some more trophies with the club. "As I said to the boss, our story is not finished".

Wenger will make a raft of changes as Arsenal play in the competition for the first time in 17 years, with Giroud expected to be one of several alterations.

"I keep it in the back of my mind", Giroud admitted. If we play well, the goals will come.

"He has had a great evolution here and overall (his) contribution has been tremendous, and I think he has shown a very loyal spirit and has a high respect from everybody inside the club, as well as (from) our fans". "I hope it can happen". "It is a privilege to score goals and win with Arsenal".
