Real Madrid defender Marcelo has signed a new five-year deal that will keep him at the club until the summer of 2022.

"Tomorrow, Thursday, at 2pm, Marcelo will appear before the media in the press room of the Santiago Bernabéu stadium".

The 29-year-old Brazil global signed for Real from Fluminense in 2007 and has helped Los Blancos win three Champions League titles and four LaLiga titles.

In total he has made 414 appearances for the 12-time European champions, scoring 28 goals in that time.

Real will seek to put a disappointing start to their La Liga campaign behind them when they begin their defence of the Champions League title later on Wednesday at home to Cypriot champions APOEL Nicosia.

Earlier on Wednesday, the Royal Spanish Football Federation confirmed that Marcelo will serve a two-match ban in Spain's top flight following his red card against Levante last Saturday.

Marcelo joined Real back in 2007 from Fluminese and was immediately hailed as the long-term successor to Roberto Carlos' left-back berth.
