Jurgen Klopp keen for Sadio Mane not to change playing style

Mane was dismissed after 37 minutes of the Reds' 5-0 defeat at the Etihad Stadium on Saturday after catching home goalkeeper Ederson with a boot in the face. At the end of the day, the only opinion that matters is that of the FA and they've ruled that the three-match ban is justified despite a rash of similar incidents amounting to only a yellow card or going unpunished altogether.

Yet, commander Vincent Kompany missed preparing on Tuesday and is relied upon to miss the Champions League opener with Feyenoord with a calf strain that precluded him of the diversion against Liverpool.

"I didn't expect something different", said the Liverpool manager, as quoted by the Express.

"Our appeal was right because we would have appealed the red card but we didn't".

But with Claudio Bravo - himself a £17m signing last summer - riding the bench, Guardiola may not wish to take the risk, despite Ederson's impressive form at the start of the season. "But actually I never thought [a reduction in the ban] would happen, only because I am used to things like this". There were a lot of situations in the last few weeks'.

"I was outside with Pep and we both didn't think it's a red card", said Jurgen Klopp, speaking with BBC Sport on Saturday.

It will be great to hear that Champions League anthem being played at Anfield again tomorrow night, with this competition meaning more than any other to the club's fans. "It looks really terrible and he was also lucky nothing more serious happened". But that is unlikely so the forward still faces at least one game out. I don't blame the ref for the decision.

"It was our duty to appeal, but as I said after the game, it was a waste of time". I don't want to bring that in doubt, but how can you ask if he's number one? "Today we make the training session, tomorrow we will see, I have to speak with him".
