The Senegal forward was sent off by referee Jon Moss after raising his foot and clashing with City goalkeeper Ederson in the Reds' 5-0 defeat on Saturday which saw them drift out to.

Mane is available to face Sevilla but will miss this weekend's home game against Burnley, along with the dual EFL Cup and Premier League trips to Leicester City.

Dutch champions Feyenoord make their return to the group stages of Europe's premier competition against City at De Kuip on Wednesday after a 15-year absence.

"I didn't expect something different", Klopp said. It was our duty to appeal. But it was a waste of time obviously.

But he added: "I'm sure enough people will find a reason to say it's 100 per cent a red card". When I saw the draw, I thought it was the flawless opportunity. Only Sadio was not lucky and Ederson was not lucky.

"It looks really very bad and it was lucky nothing more serious happened in this situation but that is football".

Lukaku is now top of the log with four goals, while Manchester City striker Gabriel Jesus, Chelsea forward Alvaro Morata, Leicester City star Vardy and Arsenal man Danny Welbeck share the same tally as Mane.

"There was not even a percentage of Sadio which wanted to put the goalkeeper in danger".

And Reds' manager Jurgen Klopp, looking at losing his man for three games for unsafe play, said Mane "didn't see" the onrushing Ederson as he was focusing on the ball and their "unlucky" collision was "an accident".

"After the game in the changing room he was talking as if nothing had happened". It's like it is.

The City captain picked up the injury against Gibraltar on August 31 but carried on playing, with the decision made even more weird by the fact that Belgium crushed their opponents 9-0.

"They have players with lots of quality and experience and to me they are one of the teams that can win the Champions League".

"I think [Guardiola] is doing a great job". Players of a certain level and personality grow when they come to a stadium and atmosphere like this, they grow in strength.

Lineker agreed, saying "You've got to go for that".
