Cubs Playoff Watch: Bryant Homers as Chicago Rights the Ship

Major League Baseball released its tentative 2018 schedule on Tuesday afternoon, and there are plenty of highlights.

It was no secret what the game plan was for the for the Chicago Cubs Tuesday night as they opened a three-game series with the New York Mets.

Before the Tuesday game, manager Joe Maddon said Arrieta told him he felt good after playing catch in the outfield.

In the three contests against the Brewers, the Cubs scored all of three runs and saw their division lead narrow to two games. At Pittsburgh on Thursday, the left-hander looked to be almost back in form, tossing six innings and allowing one run and five hits. Similar two-game, home-and-home series will be played against the Tigers with the Cubs hosting the Twins for three at Wrigley Field (June 29-July 1) then traveling to Kansas City to face the Royals for three (August 6-8).

Asdrubal Cabrera had three hits for NY, but Robert Gsellman (6-7) lasted just four innings.

"I'm like, 'Man, the only way you end up on ESPN is if you really screw this one up, '" Spieth said. They never relinquished the lead as they kept on putting leadoff on men throughout the game (in seven of eight innings they batted) and adding runs, including home runs by Kyle Schwarber and Ian Happ.

"We're really excited. It'll be a fun day".

Tampa Bay has split the first two games of the set held at the home of the Mets. "It happened to be a home run". Contreras went on the DL on August 11 due to a right hamstring strain. Single game ticket buyers are encouraged to pay with Mastercard, the preferred credit card of the Chicago Cubs.

The Mets, virtually eliminated from the postseason, will counter with right-hander Matt Harvey (5-4, 5.82 ERA) on Wednesday.
