British Cycling has confirmed that Tour de France and Vuelta victor Chris Froome will ride the time trial at the UCI World Championships in Bergen, Norway, while Lizzie Deignan will seek to reclaim the rainbow jersey in the road race after recovering from an operatioon to remove her appendix.

"A fifth Tour de France title will take my aim but it's early days and I'll wait to see what the Giro, Tour and Vuelta courses look like next year and sit down with my team to draw up the goals".

Froome, victor of four Tours de France, won't be the only ringer on the British squad in Bergen, Norway.

Tour de France and Vuelta a Espana victor Chris Froome, Owain Doull, Vasil Kiryienka, Michal Kwiatkowski and Gianni Moscon are also selected.

Team Sky sports director Brett Lancaster said: "The plan is to go for the win". Super-domestique and Milano-Sanremo victor Michal Kwiatkowski will also race the TTT for Sky.

Owain Doull and Geraint Thomas, two of Froome's countrymen, will also race Sunday in Bergen.

British Cycling's head coach Iain Dyer said: "Selection for this year's Road World Championships was a hard one due to the depth of talent we have in Great Britain across the board, which is a good position to be in".

And the Briton will go for another double later this month as part of a Sky selection also featuring Thomas, who won the opening time trial in the Tour before crashing out on a later stage. It was third in Florence, Italy that year behind Orica-GreenEdge and victor Omega Pharma-Quick-Step.

"Eddy Merckx's time of racing, he was able to win every single kind of race on the calendar".

Chris Froome and Geraint Thomas have been named in Team Sky's line-up for the team time trial at the World Championships. Sunday's TTT route does not include that finish climb but it does have a 1.4km ascent of Birkelundsbakken, averaging 7.2 percent.
