At the special Apple Event on September 12th, Apple announced the new Apple Watch 3 and the watchOS 4 release date that will come ahead of the new Apple Watch models. The new connectivity should also allow the Series 3 to do things like allow wearers to chuck the phone and navigate via Apple Maps, listen to music on one's wireless headphones, or even order takeaway. That's how they positioned the manufacturer. You can make regular calls right from Apple Watch 3, too, since the device now ships with a built-in cellular antenna.

WatchOS 4 comes with a number of new features, including a new face that suggests content based on suggestions from the company's Siri virtual assistant, a News app, and a new list view for all of the applications installed on a device.

The Series 3 will cost $399, and carriers AT&T, Verizon, Sprint and T-Mobile will support it. To date, Apple hasn't disclosed sales of the Watch, which was its first all-new product released under Chief Executive Tim Cook, and some detractors have said sales were stymied because the initial version lacked goal.

Correction: Telus and Bell have informed MobileSyrup that the Apple Watch Series 3 will only be coming to Bell by September 22nd. It does bring several new Siri features, new watch faces, and improved health and fitness-related features.

But that doesn't mean we're not excited. iPhone independence would open Apple Watch up to a variety of uses and likely give it a giant sales boost (assuming it's not too expensive).
