An explosion outside the Kabul International Cricket Stadium in Afghanistan on Wednesday led to panic and at least two dead; however, the Afghanistan Cricket Board confirmed that all the players were safe.

No group claimed responsibility for the attack. The invasion removed the Taliban militants from power, but militancy continues to this day.

Initially, it was reported that the explosion took place at the stadium gate.

Five other civilians were injured when the bomb went off, none of them cricket players, he added.

The cricket match - involving some worldwide players invited for an exhibition event - resumed after a pause. The reasons for the blast are unknown so far.

War-torn Afghanistan has earned acclaim in cricket in recent years as an emerging force in worldwide play.

Cricket has become one of Afghanistan's most popular sports and the national team, many of whose members have trained in India, has become increasingly successful, raising the profile of the game.
