The brand is further giving an impetus to health and fitness via the Apple Watch.

In addition to cellular connectivity, Apple announced several improvements to the heart rate sensor on the Apple Watch. The orders starts from September 15th and will be available from September 22nd.

The of Apple Watch Series 3 unveiling took place at a media event which is the first in the Steve Jobs Theater at Apple's new "spaceship" campus in Cupertino. With that connection, Watch apps should become more informed and useful when the paired iPhone isn't nearby, constrained only by the small size of the display.

The Series 3 will cost $399, and carriers AT&T, Verizon, Sprint and T-Mobile will support it. Apple's new Watch comes with a built-in cellular service. Apple is also updating its software to offer more detailed heart rate information, including notifying people when they have abnormally high resting heart beat and tracking irregular heartbeats as part of a new nationwide study in conjunction with Stanford's hospital.

Now Apple has figured out how to work in LTE, and without making the watch so thick that it feels like a "house arrest bracelet", as Williams joked. The new processor, plus a rumoured change to the Apple Watch's display supposedly finally made the LTE Apple Watch possible.

While Apple typically keeps tight-lipped on sales of its smartwatch, Tim Cook said during today's keynote that Apple Watch sales have grown 50 per cent year on year. The new watch comes out September 22.

And when it does come time to charge there might be a more convenient solution this time, as an Apple patent has been unearthed, showing a wireless charging stand that would charge the Watch no matter how it's placed on the base. Like other Apple Watches the Series 3 comes in 42mm and 38mm sizes.

It might look the same, but the latest smartwatch from Apple sounds like it will be a lot more powerful. Series 1 remains at $249.

Before getting to the new hardware, Williams walked us through some of the exciting new features of watchOS 4. The Apple Watch already has Siri capabilities, but Siri's AI and machine learning technology is used in this watch face to provide more personalized information to those who use it.
