Chesney toldHLN's Morning Express with Robin Meade that his home on St. John was destroyed, but that he is much more anxious about the people living on the island than he is about his home.

Chesney told HLN's Robin Meade that his house was "simply gone" after the storm wreaked havoc on the tropical paradise.

He says, "I've never been to war, but the devastation, the people's faces in a place I know by heart have left me feeling helpless. It's really odd to see such a handsome place look like a war zone".

Upon learning of the devastation in the Virgin Islands, Kenny created a foundation to help those who lost everything during the hurricane. The singer launched his Love for Love City Foundation over the weekend and has urged fans to donate money to it through his website. For more information on how to help, visit Kenny's official website.

The foundation was started to provide disaster relief for both the USA and British Virgin Islands.

After hitting the Caribbean, Hurricane Irma tore through the Florida Keys; in that area, CNN reports, an estimate 25 percent of houses have been destroyed and another 65 percent suffered serious damage.
