The BCB has granted Shakib Al Hasan the break he had requested from Test cricket, but for a shorter duration than the six months he had asked for.

According to ESPNcricinfo, the BCB has taken Shakib's request seriously and is considering him giving a shortened break in the player's bid to prolong his worldwide career.

The senior cricketer's wish has put the country's cricket board in a dilemma, as the selectors are supposed to announce the Bangladesh squad for a two-match Test series in South Africa soon.

"Confirming the news, Jalal Yunus, BCB's media committee chairman, said, 'Shakib has submitted a letter to the BCB asking for a six-month break from Test cricket".

If Shakib does go through with it and submits the letter, he is set to miss the South Africa series and the one against Sri Lanka at home. We can only think of a replacement when we get an official letter from him. "He will not be travelling with the team but he can tell us what he decides to do". "We should also keep his fatigue into consideration".

According to Cricbuzz, the BCB have confirmed about Shakib's wish to take a sabbatical while still continuing to play in limited-overs format for Bangladesh.

So far in his illustrious career, Shakib has missed only 7 Tests and played 51. He had missed two Tests in Sri Lanka in 2013 due to an injury and two more in the West Indies in 2014 due to a suspension.
