The French global has been heavily linked with a switch to United, but after Atleti were hit by a transfer embargo, any chance of a move was over as the La Liga side could not sign a replacement.

It has been claimed that Jose Mourinho will be able to sign the France worldwide for about €100 million (R1.5 billion), which is slightly more than what they could have got him for at the beginning of the latest window.

However, once Atletico's summer ban on incoming transfers was not over-turned, the club's big names stayed loyal - with Griezmann confirming he could not just leave the club without having the ability to replace him.

Jose Mourinho will hope that signing Griezmann next summer can be something of a formality.

Manchester United are reportedly already preparing a January swoop for Antoine Griezmann after Atletico Madrid were said to have halved the forward's release clause.

Atletico Madrid will once again be able to complete signings as soon as the January window opens, meaning they could find a replacement for their star man should Manchester United come calling once more. The Ros Rojiblancos were banned from making any new signing this summer after they were found guilty of landing an under-aged player. The Old Trafford club now have Romelu Lukaku and Marcus Rashford leading the attack for them.

France forward Antoine Griezmann says that "11 warriors" helped Luxembourg gain a goalless draw in the World Cup qualifier between the two nations.
