J&K: 2 Hizbul militants gunned down in Sopore encounter

Two militants were neutralised in an encounter with security forces in the Sopore township of north Kashmir's Baramulla district on Monday, the police said. Speaking to PTI, the official further informed that the forces were conducting a search operation and this was when the militants opened fire on them.

"The army and police contingents cordoned off the area on specific intelligence inputs about the presence of militants". The police said that the bodies of two terrorists have been recovered and three weapons were also seized from the site of encounter.

"The terrorists, who were killed, and those are trapped are either Lashkat-e-Taiba or Hizbul-Mujahideen cadres", a senior police officer said.

Security forces are still carrying on search operations in the area.

On Friday, one policeman was killed and four injured after the terrorists attacked a bus ferrying security personnel in Srinagar's Pantha Chowk.

Recently on August 23, a serious lapse in jail securities was pointed out after 20 cell phones have been seized in a raid in the district of Baramulla.
