Manchester City 'to return with improved Alexis Sanchez bid'

Reports on Wednesday night suggested Pep Guardiola is determined to sign Sanchez this summer, in case he ends up leaving the club for free next year.

The Gunners had accepted an offer of £55 million plus a further £5m in add-ons on transfer deadline day but said the deal was dependent on them finding a replacement for Sanchez.

Press Association Sport understands Arsenal would only have sanctioned his departure if they had been able to strike a deal with Monaco for Thomas Lemar.

City are widely reported to have tabled a £50million offer for Sanchez, who would jump at the chance of a move to the Etihad Stadium, if Arsenal opened the door.

However, the player's first choice remains a move to City due to his relationship with Guardiola.

City have been linked with the unsettled Chile attacker all summer and there were reports yesterday a deal involving a £20m lump sum, plus England winger Raheem Sterling, was in the offing.

Ramsey, now away on worldwide duty with Wales, was one of a promising British core of players much-heralded by manager Arsene Wenger.

There is also the potential to try to sign him when the transfer window reopens in January.

Alexis is with Chile ahead of their World Cup qualifiers against Paraguay and Bolivia but City are prepared to fly out reprentatives in a bid to conclude a transfer before the transfer window closes at 23:00 BST on Thursday. That echoes what sources were telling me yesterday, that Manchester City are interested in a cash-only bid, they're not interested in throwing players in.
