Bangladesh - which has won just nine of 100 Tests in its history - showed its much more fancied opponents how it's done and went to stumps on day two 1-45 in its second dig and already well in front.

Currently, numerous surfaces in the National Cricket League and the Bangladesh Cricket League are batting friendly, and help fast bowlers in the first few weeks of the season before easing out into featherbeds.

It is now unclear if Hazlewood would be able to continue in the game.

This is the first test between the two sides since 2006, and the touring Australians enter without any warmup matches because of flooding at the practice venue.

Welcoming Steve Smith to the crease, Warner then turned the tide on the Bangladeshis by hitting 11 fours and 1 six to drive Australia towards their target of 265.

Cricket Australia denied O'Keefe's axing from the original party was due to an alcohol-fuelled incident at the Cricket New South Wales awards night earlier this year. Nathan Lyon earlier claimed 6-82 to dismiss Bangladesh for a modest 221 in their second innings and give Australia a scent of victory.

Hazlewood will return to Australia after suffering a side strain during the first Test. He said it is going to be pretty hard sitting at home watching.

Bangladesh goes into day three of the first Test against Australia with their foot firmly on the throat of the visiting team. "So he's a big member around the group", Cummins said.

On a day of fluctuating fortunes, Bangladesh slumped to 10-3 before Shakib Al Hasan and Tamim Iqbal raised 155 runs to help them post a competitive total at the Shere Bangla National Stadium.

"He's been bowling beautifully out the back (in the Mirpur practice nets) here".

"Again, someone who has been around the team a long time and been bowling really well".

Agar's performance has been the highlight so far for the underperforming Australians, leading the way with the ball courtesy of four wickets and producing a vital, unbeaten knock coming in at No.9.

"It's not great about Joshy but we're lucky that we've got such a strong squad over here". Lyon, Agar and part-time spinner Glenn Maxwell combined to take 15 wickets in the first Test.
