Kyrie Irving Trade: Will Boston Celtics add value? 10 questions to answer

Before the Boston trade shockingly emerged, Irving reportedly said he preferred to end up with the San Antonio Spurs, the New York Knicks, the Minnesota Timberwolves or the Miami Heat, none of which have anything near the assets the Celtics were willing to part with in the trade that now hangs in the balance.

The Cavaliers are posturing that if the Celtics want to get this deal done - Thomas, Jae Crowder, Ante Zizic and the Nets' unprotected 2018 first-round pick for Kyrie Irving - Boston will have to sweeten the pot. The Cavaliers continue to seek additional compensation from the Celtics and could reject the trade if their request isn't met, while leaving Thomas in limbo ahead of next year's free agent market.

Boston has sold their fan base on a future centered around Kyrie Irving as the focal point, with Gordon Hayward and Al Horford playing supporting roles.

Thomas has been rehabilitating a hip injury that ended his season in the Eastern Conference finals, and sources have told ESPN that he has yet to begin a regimen of running this offseason.

ESPN reported Friday night that the Cavaliers are "considering possible ramifications" after Thomas took his physical.

The deadline for players involved in the trade to pass physicals and complete the trade is 10 a.m. ET Thursday, but that deadline can be extended if both teams agree. More likely, the Cavaliers will be chasing another first-round draft pick.

So there was absolutely nothing deceitful said or done on the part of the Celtics, who worked with the 28-year-old Thomas this summer to determine that surgery was not necessary, when it came to selling the Cavs on Thomas' inclusion in the trade. Wojnarowski added that the Cavaliers could threaten to veto the trade, but the Celtics might call their bluff since they're already giving up a ton as it is. "I'm sure the deal will go through". Still, it is unlikely that the Celtics could find a point guard of Thomas' stature on the market - never mind Irving's. Of course, that might be more of the posturing we've seen from both sides. In order to finish off this Kyrie deal, Boston may have to send one of their beloved youngsters flying to Cleveland.

Wojnarowski said that the events surrounding the trade and the injury have "unfairly" damaged Thomas' value around the league.
