Super Eagles Italian goalkeeping coach, Italian Enrico Pionetti has said that he was not convinced that the local boys were good enough to face Cameroon, hence his request for the invitation of two foreign based goalkeepers, Completesportsnigeria.com reports.

He trained with Nigeria in March after a friendly against Senegal in London.

Leading their world cup qualifying group, Nigeria play African champions Cameroon at home in Uyo on the 1st of September and the return leg is in four days later in Yaounde.

There is also a return for Odion Ighalo whose last call-up was against Algeria in November 2016.

Israel -based striker Anthony Nwakaeme who has been invited following his fine form for Hapoel Be'er Sheva is in the Super Eagles team for the first time. The Chelsea legend served as the backbone for the Super Eagles for the past decade, through the good times and, the more recent, bad times.

With Super Eagles first choice goalkeeper Carl Ikeme out, Rohr has stuck with the trio of Daniel Akpeyi, Ikechukwu Ezenwa and Dele Alampasu.

Nigeria's squad includes Premier League stars such as Wilfred Ndidi, Ahmed Musa, Kelechi Iheanacho (all Leicester City), Alex Iwobi (Arsenal) and Victor Moses (Chelsea), as well as former Chelsea star John Obi Mikel, while Chippa United goalkeeper Daniel Akpeyi is the only representative from South Africa's top flight.

While 23 players will attend the training camp, six players have been placed on standby -- Kenneth Omeruo (Chelsea), Uche Agbo (Standard Liege), Henry Onyekuru (Anderlecht), Alhassan Ibrahim, Ifeanyi Ifeanyi (Akwa United) and Aaron Samuel (CSKA Moscow). Zambia and Algeria are on a point each.
