Now, according to German newspaper Bild, a successor has been found.

A hard off-season appeared to have been put to be following the impressive win over last season's runners-up Tottenham at the weekend.

Chelsea had needed a result in that game following their surprising opening day home defeat to Burnley, but the win over Spurs has merely papered over the cracks.

The Italian has consistently hit out at the board for failing to land his top transfer targets and Conte's decision to sign a new deal at the club for more money - but not to extend his contract - raised eyebrows at the club.

That reportedly consists of £100m up front, with Champions League-related add-ons of £36m over the following four seasons.

Luis Enrique, the former Barcelona boss, is also said to have been considered but Tuchel's greater grasp of the English language has given him the advantage. While there is no date regarding when this potential switch could happen - whether it be in the coming weeks or at the end of the season - it is believed that the relationship between Conte and the club is weak.

Granovskaia played a key role in signing Spain striker Diego Costa, a figure who has been axed by Conte as he seeks a move back to Atletico Madrid.
