First capped by his country when only 17, Coetzee has made 23 global appearances and was part of the 2016 Rio Olympic Games squad.

Celtic have agreed a deal to sign defender Rivaldo Coetzee from South African side Ajax Cape Town.

Speaking to BT Sport, Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers has confirmed that the "outstanding" Rivaldo Coetzee is close to signing for his team.

In a website statement, Ajax said Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers believes "Coetzee is a ideal fit as he is a ball-playing, dual-footed centre-back with an impressive array of pass (es)". "He's an outstanding young player that we think can help us, but it's not complete yet". He also outlined why he was so keen to add the player to his squad. He's obviously in his pre-season as well, but we'll see.

"He's a player that can come straight in".

"He's a player that can come straight in, he's a full worldwide player so has great qualities - good defensive qualities - and if we can get that done then it'll be a very good signing for us". Coetzee has been an instrumental figure within the Urban Warriors setup, but after the defender went AWOL earlier in the transfer window, a move away from the club began to gain traction.
