'The Hitman's Bodyguard' has topped the box office weekend with an impressive $21.6 million.

Two new films-"The Hitman's Bodyguard" and "Logan Lucky"-soared to the top three in North American theaters this weekend, with "Logan" scoring well with critics, but "Hitman" far luckier in ticket sales". The heist comedy, set in the backdrop of NASCAR's Coca-Cola 600 race, sputtered in at $8.1 million at 3,031 theaters. After being know to play Harry Potter's father, Gary Oldman plays a serious baddie in the upcoming movie "The Hitman's Bodyguard" where he sinks his teeth again into another epic villain, the ruthless Dukhovich.

Christopher Nolan's Dunkirk and Open road's The Nut Job 2: Nutty By Nature, filled out the top five, earning $6.7 million and $5.1 million over the weekend, respectively. He made the $29 million film outside the Hollywood studio system by relying on a combination of foreign presales and equity, while also raising another $20 million in marketing money so as to retain tight control of how the PG-13 pic was sold when partnering with indie distributor Bleecker Street.

The film received a lackluster 38% on Rotten Tomatoes - but audiences appeared to enjoy it more than critics, giving it a 75% rating on the site. The disappointing box office take was only enough to snag a third place finish for the caper comedy from director Steven Soderbergh and starring Channing Tatum, Adam Driver, and Daniel Craig.

Coming in second place is the horror film, Annabelle: Creation.

Ingrid Goes West and Good Time both continued to impress in their sophomore outings.
